Page Program
WHAT IS A HOUSE PAGE?
The Kansas House operates a program that allows a limited number of young people to come to Topeka for one day when the House is in session (January through April 2010) to serve as House pages. Pages run errands, deliver mail and messages, and complete other tasks that help the legislature to complete its day-to-day operation. House pages ordinarily have the opportunity to sit in the House during the daily session, to meet the governor, to visit with their sponsoring Representative, and to see up close how state government really works.
WHO CAN BE A HOUSE PAGE?
House pages must be at least 12 years of age and still attend middle school or high school. Each year, Representative Jeff King is allowed a limited number of pages, all of whom live in the 12th House District. The 12th district include 4 public school districts, as well as several private schools and numerous families who home school their children. Representative King will work hard to ensure that students from all across his district and from all walks of life have the opportunity to serve as House pages If there are more applicants than positions available, preference will be given to older applicants who are close to graduation from high school and younger applicants will be encouraged to re-apply the following year.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Representative King chooses his pages from applications submitted by interested young people. Applications are available now for the 2010 legislative session and must be submitted not later than January 25, 2010. Applicants will be notified in late January or early February whether they have been selected to page during this year's legislative session.
There are four ways to obtain an application:
- Fill out the Online Page Application
- Click and download the House Page Application and email to jeffkingks@hotmail.com (preferred method);
- Call or write to Representative King and request that an application be sent to you by U.S. mail (See Contact Jeff for addresses and telephone numbers); or
- Ask your public school's superintendent for a copy.
If you are a young person at least age 12, are interested in government, and live in the 12th House District, you should consider applying to serve as a page for Representative Jeff King!
